Electroformed nickel marks are solid metal graduations, wear-resistant and resistant to fading, with a three-dimensional metallic feel, making them the preferred choice for high-end precision measuring tools. PET marks are printed on plastic film, flat and mimicking metal, with low cost, suitable for general markings.
Material & Process
Electroformed Nickel: Pure nickel metal, electroformed and electrochemically deposited, thickness 0.04–0.12mm. Graduations can be made into micro-embossed three-dimensional reliefs, with a natural metallic feel.
PET: Polyester plastic film, printed/vacuum-plated to mimic a metallic effect. The substrate itself is plastic; the graduations are printed on the film surface, flat with no raised areas, only a visual metallic feel.

Wear Resistance & Graduation Accuracy (Crucial for Rulers)
Electroformed Nickel: High metal hardness, resistant to repeated wiping and scratching. The graduations themselves are solid nickel, so the ink won't fade; micron-level precision, extremely fine graduation lines are clear and sharp, suitable for precision rulers.
PET: Scales are printed with ink; prolonged friction can cause the ink to wear off and turn white. Precision is sufficient, but the edges of fine lines are not as sharp as electroplated nickel. The metallic film layer of silver-plated PET will show through after scratches.
Appearance & Feel
Electroplated Nickel: Real metallic luster; raised scales can be felt by touch, giving it a high-end feel; mirror/brushed nickel effect with strong light and shadow effects.
PET: Flat film; smooth to the touch without a three-dimensional feel; matte silver/bright silver is just a coating on the plastic film, lacking the solid feel of metal.
Temperature and Environment
Electroplated Nickel: Metal; high temperature resistant; resistant to alcohol, oil, and solvents; corrosion resistant; does not easily age in long-term outdoor/industrial environments.
PET: Plastic film; standard temperature range -40~120℃; prolonged immersion in strong solvents will corrode the surface ink/plating; prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause aging.
Cost & Selection
Electroplated Nickel: Higher unit price; suitable for precision instruments, high-end measuring tools, and rulers requiring long-term wear resistance.
PET: High cost-performance ratio, cheap in large quantities, suitable for general measuring tools, short-term use, and scale marking with limited budget.
